Resettlement SupportDental care is one of the most overlooked health needs in rural farming communities — and one of the most consequential. Untreated gum disease and tooth decay allow bacteria to enter the bloodstream, driving the same inflammation linked to heart attacks, stroke, and infections of the heart lining. Research shows adults with gum disease face a meaningfully higher risk of heart attack, and childhood tooth decay is tied to hardened arteries later in life. Farmers already carry a heavy cardiovascular burden — poor oral health quietly makes it worse, for parents and children alike.
